September is California Pedestrian Safety Month. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will conduct another bicycle and pedestrian safety operation on, September 15th, 2022 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., focused on the most dangerous driver behaviors that put the safety of people biking or walking at risk. These violations include speeding, making illegal turns, failing to yield or provide right of way to bicyclists or pedestrians, or failing to stop for signs and signals.

There was a similar Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety operation in LA County on September 2, 2022 during the same hours.

“We all have places to be and not everyone gets there by car,” Sergeant Robert Hill said. “Bicyclists and pedestrians have the same rights to the road but face even more risk without the protections vehicles have. We should all be looking out for one another.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department offers steps drivers and pedestrians can take to greatly reduce the risk of getting injured or in a crash:

I have very little respect for bicycle riders in West Hollywood–they’re a hazard to everyone, including themselves. It’s impossible to walk a block down Santa Monica Blvd. without at least one bicycle rider racing down the sidewalk.

It sounds like your problem is with a handful of bicycle riders that race down the sidewalk, not all bicycle riders in WeHo.

Not all, but I think many of them would ride in the street if we made streets safer – whether that’s lower speed limits, designated bike lanes, better enforcement of traffic laws, better driver education, etc.

Improving safety on our roads benefits everyone and something we should all be supporting.
