On Sept. 8, Pearl Jam brought their current North American tour to Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Mixed into last night’s expansive set was a debut cover of The Beatles’ 1969 ditty, “Her Majesty,” which was performed the same day as the sudden death of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

Pearl Jam’s cover of The Beatles’ track landed after a run-through of “Daughter,” “Come Back,” and “Sometimes” and was the fourth song of the night. The tune initially appeared on The Beatles’ 11th studio album, the seminal 1969 classic Abbey Road, and was originally led by Paul McCartney.

A seated Vedder strummed his guitar and grabbed the mic before addressing the audience directly: “This is a little one I’m going to borrow from Paul McCartney for about 90 seconds.”

From there, he jumped into the acoustic cover, which was capped by a tour debut of “All Those Yesterdays,” which was last played on Aug. 8, 2018, at Safeco Fields in the band’s native Seattle.
