A Dundee Township man who sexually assaulted a child for a year and a half has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Ralph Malacara, 46, of the 800 block of Village Quarter Road, agreed to plead guilty to a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault, a class X felony, in exchange for the prison term, a news release said.

Malacara knew the victim and knew she was under the age of 13 when the assaults occurred between August 2008 and February 2010, the release said.

In addition to the prison sentence, he must register for life as a sexual offender under state law.

Malacara will receive credit for 56 days served in the Kane County jail and must serve at least 85% of the sentence, the release said.

“This victim was a young child when she was sexually assaulted. She held on to her secret for more than a decade before she finally told someone she trusted,” Assistant State’s Attorney Stacey Wittman said.

“The public should understand that it is common for child sexual abuse victims to disclose many years, if not decades, after abuse occurs. They will talk about it when it feels right for them to talk about it. And when they’re ready, we are here to listen and to work for justice for them.
