Cadillac is now testing the production version of the Celestiq, after having revealed the show car.

Cadillac posted an image on Twitter that shows the production version of the Celestiq electric sedan undergoing road tests while wearing camouflage.

The Celestiq show car was revealed last month, but the production version hasn’t been unveiled yet.

Despite its camouflage, the test car shows clearly that the final product will look very similar to the concept and that it will be a large liftback sedan with a sleek profile.

Unlike the concept, however, the Celestiq will have regular mirrors and a different front intake, which are two details that can be seen on the test car.

Slight changes are always expected when a vehicle goes from concept to production stage since concepts and show cars are usually not fitted with all of the lights and reflectors that are required by law. In addition, these vehicles often showcase technologies that are not yet approved for on-road use.

Speaking of technologies, the Celestiq will be full of them since it will apparently be priced to compete with Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Some of the technologies that will be pioneered by this model include a 55-inch digital display that will take up the entire width of the dashboard and integrate a separate screen for the front passenger which will be obscured from the driver.

In addition, the Celestiq will be the first production vehicle to be fitted with a smart glass roof that features four distinct zones. Some ultra-luxury vehicles such as Maybach models have offered glass roofs that can be turned opaque at the touch of a button before, but none have made it so that different sections of the roof can be clear and opaque at the same time.

The Cadillac Celestiq will also be the first vehicle to offer General Motors‘ Ultra Cruise system, which will be a competitor to the Tesla FSD system since it promises to work on 95% of all roads in the US and to be able to change lanes or park in a driveway on its own.

Like the Tesla system, Ultra Cruise will be a level 2 system that will still require driver attention, but it could help make long drives more relaxing.

Under the skin, the Celestiq will use a similar Ultium platform as the one used by the current Cadillac Lyriq and the GMC Hummer EV.

This hand-built luxury sedan should be unveiled in its final form in 2023 or 2024 for its introduction as a 2025 model-year vehicle.
